Description

The artwork "Sculpture 1" (2017) impressively demonstrates the sculptural signature of Heinz Möseneder, who was not only a painter but also a sculptor. This experience is reflected in the sculptural depth of the work, which gives the impression that the forms have been modelled out of the canvas. The flowing lines and voluminous structures are reminiscent of working stone or clay, whereby the composition develops a three-dimensional effect despite its two-dimensionality.

The delicate yellow and brown tones reinforce the impression of matter and light, as if the work is glowing from within. The physicality of the implied figures, whose contours rise organically from the pictorial space, emphasises Möseneder's understanding of form and volume, which he has perfected in his work as a sculptor.

"Sculpture 1" looks like a symbiosis of painting and sculpture: a dialogue between surface and space. The figures appear to be in motion, as if they have just been carved out of a block by a sculptor. This dynamic lends the work a timeless presence and makes it a fascinating testimony to Möseneder's ability to transcend the boundaries between disciplines. An image that poetically interprets the sculptural character of the human body, emphasising the sensual experience of form and materiality.
