In this rare copper relief from 1984, Heinz Möseneder depicts a quiet, introspective figure. The slightly inclined posture and the hinted-at face convey a moment of deep reflection, whilst the figure appears to merge with its only sketchily defined surroundings. Delicate lines, engravings and bold marks of the artist’s hand lend the work a sense of both tranquillity and inner movement.

The warm hues of the copper and the multi-layered texture of the surface mean that the work takes on a constantly changing appearance depending on how the light falls. Light reflections and darker, patinated areas engage in a vibrant interplay, creating a unique sense of spatial depth. Light itself thus becomes an integral part of the composition.
